I was curious to see how effectively AI could help in job search in practice. I conducted an experiment on LinkedIn where I offered job seekers the opportunity to find jobs using my book "AI in Job Search" and its methods. I asked participants for feedback on four questions:
- Did you find interesting job positions?
- Did you end up applying to any of them?
- Do you see value in using ChatGPT or my e-book's guidance for job search?
- Did you get a job or job offers?
Results and Experiences in Practice
Interesting Job Positions:
Almost all participants felt they had found interesting job positions, although there was variation in accuracy and relevance. Some felt that the search results were spot-on and saved time, while others faced challenges particularly with seniority and specific requirements.
Benefits Leading to Applications:
Some participants reported planning to apply to recommended positions. Participant #7 in particular clearly stated they had applied to suggested roles and strongly believed in the method.
Views on AI's Usefulness:
The majority of participants saw clear value in using ChatGPT and AI tools in job search. For example, participant #4 highlighted time savings and the opportunity to find jobs that might otherwise go unnoticed with traditional search methods. Participant #7 was strongly enthusiastic about it, saying AI usage was "ABSOLUTELY" beneficial.
Employment Still Open:
Since the experiment was recent, no concrete results were reported regarding employment, but several participants were hopeful and promised to share later if they get a job or offers.
Authentic User Comments
"I'll probably apply to a couple. I see value in both."— Participant #2
"One thought was whether I should word my work experience more precisely or more structured..."— Participant #6
"Found. Applied. ABSOLUTELY see the benefit!"— Participant #7
Conclusions and Recommendations for Job Seekers
- ChatGPT and AI clearly save time and bring out job opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed.
- Precise definition of your own skills and wishes significantly improves the accuracy of results.
- The method is not perfect: in very specific tasks, user's critical evaluation and fine-tuning are still required.
This experiment confirms that the methods in the "AI in Job Search" book are practically useful and can significantly streamline job search – as long as the user knows how to adapt the methods to suit their own situation.
